THE CHOIR OF DISSONANCE

In The Choir of Dissonance I attempted to create a body in constant state of change. Its members are few and infinite, its song is beautiful and noisy. The bodies making up this body, sing their own song and turn their head in whatever direction they see fit. The songs of these bodies sometimes harmonize, at times create dissonance, or become an incomprehensible noise. Even though the members chose their own song, they still make up the body of this choir. They are one in that sense, but each head with their own song. Some members' share notes, others are miles apart.

This choir does not live in vacuum, it moves and molds itself to the world, its surroundings and the events happening in and around its body. Because of this the members can sync up their songs, when events lead the way in which they sing, look and interact. When harmony strikes the song of the choir is clearest, but over time this harmony will always break down into dissonance and noise.

I created this choir with the idea that noise, even the most incomprehensible noise, still holds a lot of value when it comes from one body. We should be allowed to make noise and we don’t have to explain ourselves when we do. We should be able to sing our own songs, because we’re still combining our voices. I made the choice to alternate between states of noise, harmony and dissonance, in an attempt to show the flux within bodies.
