Bio

As an artist I’m building a practice around identity politics, body politics, blackness, representation and (de)colonisation through/in image. I’m of Senegalese and Belgian descent, my mother is Belgian/Dutch and my father Senegalese. This exposed me to a wide range of customs and culture from a young age which opened questions about myself, my identity and my place in Belgian society at a later age. In 2017 I started a bachelors in photography at LUCA School Of Arts. I moved from Leuven to Brussels, where I’m still based, in an attempt to situate myself closer to a lively and diverse work environment. In 2022 I finished my masters with my first film called Tukuleur, graduating with high honours. Late 2022 Tukuleur was selected for the Currents exhibition, a yearly selection of promising young art-graduates and a collaborative effort between Marres and Z33. For this exhibition I transformed the film from a single-screen film to a dual-screen installation piece. December that year Tukuleur won a Wildcard from the Flemisch Audiovisual Fund (VAF), providing funds for a next film project. Early 2023 I was selected for the .Tiff program of FOMU Antwerp, a program focusing on young promising artists through coaching, a magazine and an exhibition. Later that year Tukuleur was included in the 2023 Mechelen biannual Contour. Currently I’m working on my Wildcard film which is being produced by Auguste Orts.
